It is with great sorrow that the family of Stan Duguay announce his passing after a brief battle with lung cancer on Friday, July 21, 2017. Stan was born on April 12, 1937 in St. Simon NB, the second the of eleven children born to Omer and Emelda (Hébert) Duguay.

Stan leaves to mourn his wife Patricia (Sheehan), his son Mitchell (Jennifer) of Quispamsis, his daughter Myra Welsh (Del) of Moncton, and his two grandchildren Mitchell (Jill Cunningham) of Saint John and Hannah (Ben Pottle) of Saint John.

Stan left home at the young age of 15 to join the labour force; first at a lumber camp in northern Quebec, and then at different construction sites as a welder. He joined the Boiler Makers Union Local 271 in Montréal in 1957, and the Pipe Fitters Union Local 213 in 1962. Stan proudly belonged to the union until the time of his passing, having worked at all of the major construction sites in NB.

In 1958 Stan moved to Saint John for the construction of the Irving Refinery. He met and married Pat in 1962, and in 1969 they moved to Quispamsis where they stayed until 2009. It was their last move, this time to Sussex.

Stan was an avid old car lover, and had belonged to the Valley Cruisers. He also loved to fish and hunt, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at the cottage at Crawford Lake. No matter the season, Stan made sure to thoroughly entertain them with swimming, four wheeling, snowmobiling, ‘ski-boosing’ with his own design and construction, and telling lots of stories around the bonfire. Stan was a man of great faith, and was a devout Catholic. He joined the KofC 6766 local while living in the KV, and then transferred to the KoC Local 8213 when he moved to Sussex.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated team at Sussex Extra Mural; Dr G. Hollway; Dr. J. Wildish; and the nurses and staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the SJRH.

The service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at the St. Francis Xavier Parish at 114 Church Avenue in Sussex, with a reception to follow. As per Stan’s wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society , N.B Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Red Cross.

Stan’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).
