Joseph Sylvio Benoit

Joseph Sylvio Benoit of Upper Golden Grove passed away at Bobby’s Hospice on March 21st, 2015. Born in Tracadie on February 14, 1939, he was a son of the late Mary (Thomas) and Albert Benoit. He is survived by his wife Simonne (Girouard), son Rick (Debbie), granddaughter Jamie, brothers Alexi and Leonce of Saint John, sisters Margaret Godin of Saint John, Theresa Levert of Toronto, as well as Marrianne and Albertine of Tracadie. Also surviving are his mother-in-law Sophie Girouard, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, godchildren, and his camping friends. Sylvio was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Ernest, Edgar, Albert and Albenie, as well as his father-in-law, Andre Girouard.

A labourer and steelworker, he was a ‘Mr. Fix It’, and a Jack of All Trades.He built anything that he saw in a picture, including tin Mexican men, lots of children’s toys; especially rocking horses; one of his creations was ordered and sent to Ontario. Sylvio loved gardening, camping, and the casino. The family would like to thank Dr. Natalie Graves, Dr. Elaine Davies, Dr. Blaqueire, Dr. Hannigan, as well as the Doctors and Nurses at both the Oncology Department, and 5C North. Special thanks also go to the wonderful staff at Bobby’s Hospice, Steeve's Pharmasave at Parkway Mall, and to all our family and friends who helped make him laugh the last few months.

The funeral service will be held from the Chapel of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Thursday at 12:00 Noon, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
