John Robert "J.R." Martin

John Robert “J.R.” Martin, loving husband of Loretta Louis-Martin, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born October 21, 1932 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Miles Bliss Martin and Laura Mary (Comeau) Martin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Adrien Martin; daughter June Martin; brothers Donald, Linton and Arthur.

John worked for the Saint John Police Department as a Divisional Inspector retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 53 and loved playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. In his retirement years, he also enjoyed bowling, traveling, gardening and watching baseball.

In addition to his wife Loretta, he is survived by his sons John Robert Martin (Maria), Mark Martin and Dana Martin; daughters Jane Laura Richard and Joan Allen (Rick); step-children Claudia, Phil, Angie and Barry; brother Joseph Martin (Bev); sisters Barbara Robinson, Betty Campbell and Helen Purnell; close friends Sam Latimore and Carl Morgan; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday, March 23 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 24 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. Remembrances in memory of John may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
