My Grampy was a devoted and loving husband, a kind and patient father, and a wonderfully proud grandfather. So many of my earliest childhood memories include him. In fact, I can still remember learning from him how to skip rocks in the lake behind my grandparent's house, picking fresh strawberries from their garden, many family lobster boils, and hanging around with the adults at his famous basement bar. My grandparents were always surrounded by friends and family. Their house had an open-door policy and a multiple course meal would be always be waiting, regardless of when a visitor arrived, day or night.

Even after Nanny passed away in 2001 and Grampy moved from the beloved house at Bradley Lake, he continued to find great joy in life. He enjoyed drinking beer with his 'good fellas', was an active member of the local branch of the legion in Saint John, and took pleasure in his daily mall walks to get a cup of coffee from Tim Hortons. Remarkably, he was able to live on his own until he was over 90 years old. In fact, the photo that I have shared here was taken from my last visit with him in that apartment, which also turned out to be the last time that we saw each other before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I remember how we laughed a lot and shared a few beers together that night. It is a visit that I will always cherish.

As the years continued to roll by, Grampy lost much of his ability to communicate; however, his joy of life was still very present until his final days. Indeed, it is his joie de vivre that will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

I love you, Grampy. And I already miss you so much.
