Winnifred Lucy Hachey

It is with broken hearts, but appreciation for a long life well lived, that the family of Winnifred (Winnie) Lucy Hachey, beloved wife of the late Peter Hachey, announces her peaceful passing on August 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Bathurst, NB, on March 18, 1928, to the late Cecil and Gladys Baston, Winnie moved to Saint John at 19 where she met her soulmate, Peter. They shared 52 years of marriage and built a beautiful family.

Winnie was a loving mother to Cecil (Jillian) Hachey of Hampton, NB, Robert (Diane) Hachey of Crawford Lake, NB, Barbara (Peter) Dixon of Quispamsis, NB, Katherine (Brian) Hickey of Bloomfield, NB, and Peter (Christine) Hachey of Hampton, NB,. Her legacy extends to 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter, her parents, and her siblings Fred Baston, Bert (the late Christine) Baston, Marion (the late Grant) Thorpe, and Inez Baston. Winnifred was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Winnie had a passion for life's simple pleasures. She took great pride in her beautiful gardens, enjoyed her time as a league bowler, and was a dedicated bingo player (even if she didn't always win!). After the passing of her husband, Peter, in 2000, Winnifred found a new passion in travelling and went on cruises to Australia, New Zealand, and Alaska. She was also a very talented cook and baker – her homemade bread could be smelled when you’d walk in the door, and her chocolate cake with boiled icing was truly to die for! 

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 11AM – 1PM, followed by a Funeral Service in the Fundy Chapel at 1PM. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations to the IWK or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by family.
