William John Shephard

William “Bill” John Shephard has gone on to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on Valentine’s Day, 1940, he was the son of the late Harry and Evelyn (Gavin) Shephard. Bill worked as a Longshoreman for many years, retiring in 1996. Following retirement, Bill enjoyed many winters in Florida with his wife Sandra. Bill was a member of the ILA and was an active member of Mission Point Church. He was known as a prayer warrior and was devoted to God, family, and church. Bill was known as a man in charge; he gave great direction, was generous, wise, a bit of a tease, and the center of his family.

A devoted husband, father, and papa, he will be missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra (Allaby) Shephard; daughter Evelyn Cardinal (Bernardus) of Saint John; daughter-in-law Erma Shephard; chosen family April Sayeau;  grandchildren Ryan (Trisha), Aaron (Melissa), Allan (Jenna), Courtney (Carli), Kristopher (Melissa), and Alishia-Marie (James); 8 precious great-grandchildren Annabelle, Cameron, Julia, Lucy, William, Amelia, Hank, and Felix; brother Peter Shephard (Gail), sister-in-law Dianne Shephard, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his dear son Mark Shephard in 1997; sisters Marguerite Stevens and Lorraine Hayes, and most recently, his brother David Shephard.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation taking place at Mission Point Church on Monday, May 23rd from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, May 24th at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
