William "Bill" Burchill Obituary

With great sadness, but appreciation for a life well lived, the family of William "Bill” Forrest Burchill announces his peaceful passing surrounded by love, on March 3, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late William and Doris (Connor) Burchill.

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his son, John (Cherie); his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander; and his nieces, Wendy and Marron.

Dad was a gentle soul with quiet strength and a generous heart. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his family. He would do anything for anyone and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved life, really cared deeply for his family and friends, and took great pride in being a father — and that love doubled when he became a proud "Papa".

He had a deep love for nature and found his peace in the outdoors, especially during time spent at his camp, taking long walks, and feeding the birds and enjoying the nature around him; He always taught me to listen in the woods and enjoy every moment.

Beneath his quiet strength was the softest, kindest, and most gentle soul — a heart that loved deeply and gave endlessly. Dad was also known for his sense of humor; he was always joking, and if he teased you, it meant you were truly one of his people, he would never harm a soul. He loved to laugh and brought that joy to those around him.

In his earlier years, after graduating from Rothesay High School, Dad began his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia before moving on to work with Irving. He worked at the first oil refinery expansion in the early 70's, to running his own gas bar in Lansdowne place and worked at the Golden Ball where he ended up meeting Mom and they started their own journey together.

Dad's other work, including many years at Fundy Linen, where he first became involved in the union. He took great pride in serving as President of Union Local 2291 in the Saint John area and later as Regional Vice President representing Saint John and surrounding communities.

Dad was dedicated to standing up for workers and advocating for those around him. He was also actively involved with the Kiwanis Club for many years as well, where he enjoyed overseeing "Comeau House", which was a "home away from home” for hospital visitors.

As per Dad's request, there won't be any funeral or visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB. A private graveside service will be held in the spring.

The family would like to thank the kind folks on 4AN and Dr. Scott for your assistance, patience and guidance, especially in Dad's final few days.

Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to any community group that helps one another locally and one that is close to your heart, he would love that.

"You lived with honor, worked with pride and loved with your heart"

"Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories"
