William Nickerson Obituary

NICKERSON, WILLIAM ERIC - 75 Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away July 27 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born October 26, 1945 in Argyle Sound, to the late John and Marion (Hamilton) Nickerson.  Will was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 61, Yarmouth. He started his working career as a lobster fisherman, but in the late 70s happened upon Aquaculture. He became an integral part of the operations of Finives of Nova Scotia, Ocean Organic Ltd.; establishing a fish hatchery and commercial smoker for farmed Atlantic salmon as well as other species.  Until his retirement, he continued the smokehouse operations, diversifying the product offerings as required.  He dabbled in carpentry, building his own house and repairing and renovating many for others. He was an avid vegetable gardener; he took great pride in the condition of his yard. He started off as a Pepsi and Mars bar guy, but became a connoisseur of the double-double.  Daily trips to the wharf for a yarn, CNN and the weather line kept him up to date on current events both locally and around the world. To him talking about the weather was never boring, but rather essential. He truly believed in passion, which gained him a wealth of knowledge and skills. He always put his family first and until his last breath lived life on his terms.

He is survived by his daughter Darlene (Narinder) Singh, Saint John, NB. Son Troy of Alberta. Grandsons Kelton (Jenna) Nickerson, Yarmouth; Travis Nickerson, ON; Jeevan Singh, Saint John. Great Granddaughter Oakley, Yarmouth. Brother John, South Ohio, Sisters Cora Brown, Shelburne and Mavia (Nade) Goodwin, MA. Brother-in-laws Lorne, Sheldon, Roy Chester and James (Junior) and sister-in-law Lynda. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years Irene (Allen) Nickerson, the love of his life. Brothers Cecil, Adelbert, James, and Howard, sisters Rosalind, Annie, Virigina, Dorothy, Budah, Regina, Freida, Ruby.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 30 at 2 pm, Yarmouth Legion, Branch 61. His cremation has been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, with interment in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Argyle Head at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to Rothesay Netherwood School, Aidaen’s Place Wellness Center or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 61. We would like to thank Dr. E.
