Wayne Close

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wayne Close announce his peaceful passing on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Montreal, QC on March 18, 1948, he was the son of the late Ruth (Taylor) Close.

After a distinguished 25-year career in the Navy as a Petty Officer First Class, Wayne retired in 1987. Following retirement, he worked security for the corp of commissioners and then at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. When he turned 60, he embraced his passion for travel along with his wife Mary, enjoying many destinations. He also enjoyed his veteran brothers and sisters of the New Brunswick veterans UN-NATO Canada group.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 28 years, Mary (Joncas) Close; daughters, Shauna (Nathan) Close, Leanne (Ashley) Arp; Dawn Marks (Art); brothers Derrick and Robert Close; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his stepfather Gus and sisters Darlene Palamer and Starr Close.

At his request, there will be no visitation and funeral service. Donations in his memory may be made to Ridgewood Veterans Wing or the charity of one’s choice.
