Walter Henry Obituary

It is with deep respect and full hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Alan Henry on March 7, 2020; surrounded by his loving family and supported by the exceptional care staff of the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home. Walter was born in Weldon, SK on January 19, 1932 to the late W. Alan and Anne (Laurie) Henry; he was the loving husband to his late wife, Joan (Coffer) Henry and beloved father to his three children Robert, David and Laurie.

Walter attended UNB Fredericton and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. His career took him initially to Quebec where he met and married his wife Joan. He returned to Saint John (Renforth) in 1965 with his young family to join the company that would become Irving Paper where he worked for over 25 years retiring in 1991. Walter was a man of great integrity; described by any who knew him as a kind, generous, gentle man. He loved his family and his animals deeply; striving always to leave the world a little better than how he found it. He believed deeply in the Unitarian principle of inherent worth and dignity of every person; something he practiced in his service at Romero House, Meals on Wheels and his pet therapy in various nursing homes in the area. Walter ex- pressed compassion for others in the way he lived his life every day. Full of dignity and grace. Always with a smile, quick-wit, unwavering courage and positivity until the end.

Survived by his daughter, Laurie (David) Young; daughters-in-law, Heather (Robert) and Paula (David); 9 grandchildren, Alita (Jon), Thomas (Heather), Gregory (Courtney), Maureen (Alex), Dominic, Peter, William, Benjamin and Michael; great grandson, Graham; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sons, David and Robert; sister, Norma (Len) Ball and brother Charles (Ruby).

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). With respect to Walter’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will take place. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Come share your stories of this wonderful man. Memorial donations in his memory made to the Animal Rescue League (SPCA) or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
