Victor David (Dave) Delaney of Quispamsis passed away Thursday night, October 12, 2023, at Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Victor Maxwell, and mother, Julie (Richard), as well as his sisters Roxanne Parsons, and Verna Rivard and her husband Ron.
Dave is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Betty (nee Elizabeth Craft)—the absolute love of his life. Even to the end, Dave doted on Betty and joked that the road from Quispamsis to Saint John would clear for her. “She is just that beautiful!” He is also survived by his four children David (Maureen), Dennis (Sarah), Lori (Jose), and Lisa, ten grandchildren: Adam, Brit (Bailey), Connor, Charlotte (Madi), Sam, Delaney, Edward, Sarah, Max, & Victor; his brother Roy, and several cousins, brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Dave spent most of his life in retail working for FW Woolworth & Woolco, Canex and Wal-Mart. This took him and his family all over the Maritimes and Dave himself across North America and Europe. Dave, however, was most proud of his work with Habitat for Humanity. As CEO & Executive Director for the Saint John area, he opened the ReStore. Dave had a sense of adventure and loved spontaneous activities from Sunday drives, fishing and camping trips. He also loved get-togethers where there was music and dancing with family, friends, and colleagues. The Casey’s & Hicks were often their partners in crime. There was not a day where Dave couldn’t be found singing, making up lyrics to songs, or dancing in the kitchen with Betty. Dave was also engaged in the political landscape in NB working behind the scenes for the Liberal Party. He would say that you need to leave things better than when you found them or try your best to do so.
Betty and the family are grateful for the care and support shown to Dave/Dad by the doctors, nurses, and staff at Saint John Regional Hospital with a special heartfelt thank you to those working in the Oncology Unit on 5 South A. Thank you.
We also wish to recognize and thank Dr. Bewick, Dad’s Cardiologist. We know you must have joked many times over the last 20 years that Dave had more lives than a cat. You played a key role in ensuring he had those lives to live. We had him with us much longer than science and medicine predicted he should have been around. Our heartfelt thanks hardly seem enough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 135 Simpson Drive, Saint John, NB on Thursday October 19, 2023, at 11:00am. Cremation has taken place. A reception will be held at Fundy Funeral Home on 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB directly following the funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
