It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Valerie Marie (Holden) Sproul, which occurred on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, at the Loch Lomond Village. Born on June 17th, 1937, in Saint John, she is the daughter of the late George and Audrey (Campbell) Holden. Valerie worked for Irving Oil for many years before retirement. She enjoyed knitting and sports, especially hockey and the Olympic Games. Ally, Valerie’s granddaughter, was the light of her life and we are blessed that she had the opportunity to meet her great grandson Freddy.
Valerie is survived by her daughter Heather Burke (Tony) of Saint John; granddaughter Ally Bradley (Jakob) of Saint John and great-grandson Freddy; brothers Ben Holden (Thelma) of Saint John, Eric Holden (Sherry) of Quispamsis; sisters Jean Forrest (Archie) of BC, Joanne Elward (Victor) of Troy, Michigan, Linda Hyslop of Windsor, ON, Heather Maxwell of Windsor, ON, Donna Forgey of Quispamsis, Debbie Titus of Willow Grove, Norma Chatterton (John) of Saint John; brother-in-law Rod Alexander of Millidgeville; as well as several in-laws in the Sproul family, nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Valerie was predeceased by her husband Frederick, infant brother Bertram, brothers Dennis Holden (Marilyn), Melbourne Holden and Reginald Holden; sisters Dorothy Alexander, Enid Holden and Irene Russef (Fred); sisters-in-law Shirley Holden and Georgette Holden; brothers-in-law Ferdinand Forgey, Mac Amherstburg and David Titus.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Loch Lomond Village-Cedar House. A special thank you to Colleen & John “Bucky” Sproul and Thelma & Ben Holden. Your kindness, care and compassion will not be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). There will be no visitation. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery on Saturday, March 28th at 10:30 a.m. Those that wish to attend may meet at the columbarium. Donations in memory of Valerie may be made to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Society, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
