Thomas Coughlan Obituary

The family of Thomas Francis Coughlan are heartbroken to announce his passing at his home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 11, 2023 after a long and fearless battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tom is survived by Joanne, his loving wife of 50 years, his children Jason Coughlan and Jennifer Coughlan (Jacques).  His four grandchildren, who were his whole world, Joshua Coughlan, Alexis Chamberlain, Grace Coughlan, Jacob Chamberlain. His siblings Betty Cummings (Michael), Suzanne McKenna (Joe), Carole Coughlan Graham, Art Coughlan (Lynne) and Joan McGarvey (Phil), his sister-in-law Patty Coughlan, his brother-in-law Ron Watson (Joanne) as well as several nieces and nephews.  Tom was predeceased by his baby sister Mary Joan Coughlan, his father Thomas Francis Coughlan, his mother Mary Elizabeth Coughlan (Currie), his special Aunt Gertrude Marie Currie and his oldest brother Richard Joseph Coughlan.

Tom worked very proudly for Marque Construction for the last 35 years.  He was a true company man who felt honored to work for and with such a tremendous group of leaders.  At the time of his death, he sat as a member of the Canadian Construction Association’s National Advisory Committee on Trades.  He was 1st Vice President of the Construction Association of NB. He was the Past-President of the Construction Association of NB Saint John Region and continued as a Board Member.  He was President of the Saint John Mechanical Contractors Employers Association.  He was the Past-President and Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Committee for the Electrical Contractors Association of NB.  He was Co-Chair of the Work Safe NB Standing Committee for Construction Related Items.  He was a Member of the Negotiation Team for the NB National Maintenance Committee representing Contractors.

In his spare time, Tom enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a member of the Harley Owners Group. He also enjoyed golfing, although rumor has it, he wasn’t that good.  Most of his time outside of work was spent with his family whom he cherished more than anything; especially his four grandchildren.
