Susan Fry Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Fry announce her passing on June 24, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Burnell and the Oncology team, Dr. Love and the Palliative Care team, Flossie and her team on 3BS, and the attending doctors for their exceptional care and kindness.

Susan Elizabeth (Anderson) Fry was born on September 16, 1958, in Blacks Harbour, NB, to James Edward Anderson and Dorothy (Hatt) Anderson. Sue grew up in Charlotte County with her siblings; Brian (Mel) Anderson, Ron (Cheryl) Anderson, Eugene (Lorna) Anderson, Wade (Penny) Anderson, and Kim Anderson.

Sue attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro and later moved to Alberta, where she met and married her late husband, Gary David Fry. Together they had 2 children, Jennifer and Josh. Sue also became step-mom to Jeff, Gary’s son, and was overjoyed to become ‘Meema’ to his two girls, Steffani and Sophie. Sue was a devoted wife and loving mom. She was proud of her children and was their biggest supporter. She cared deeply for her family. She was especially close with her mom, Dot. They faithfully attended the Union Street Bingo almost every week together for 15+ years, and were often off on adventures near and far.

Sue was a force to be reckoned with and she worked incredibly hard to support her family, holding a variety of jobs over the years. She was an incredibly talented and creative woman - she loved learning new skills. She also loved getting know others and was always a keen conversationalist. She was actively involved with her children's competitive swim teams, eventually becoming a coach herself in Woodstock and in Saint John.

Sue was an avid cook and baker and she loved to share her baking with others. She made a mean cheesecake and would often donate her baking for raffles or charity auctions. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens each year. Sue also loved DIY and home projects, crocheting, and crafting. She was always dreaming about her next project. One of Sue’s favourite places was the beach and she enjoyed visiting her favourite spots along the Fundy coast to walk the beaches and look for sea glass with her mom and daughter. Sue loved spending time with her son and encouraged him to share his artwork with her and others. She loved animals and will be missed by her cat, Sid (Squidly).

Susan will be deeply missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love her. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, to be determined. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, The Canadian Cancer Society, or to the Canadian Red Cross.
