Stephen Paul Owens

It is with heavy hearts the family announces the death of their brother, Stephen Owens who passed away at Bobby’s Hospice on February 15th, 2021 surrounded by family. Born in Saint John on December 30th, 1953, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and F. Grace (Dunham) Owens.

A graduate of Saint John High School and UNB, Steve worked as a newsman for CHSJ TV and Radio in his early years, and later worked for New Brunswick Community College in the Language Assistance Program. Steve was very active in the community through Stone Church and the Out Reach Program, Refugee Program with the Red Cross, Saint John Multicultural Association, Empire Loyalist Association, and the Saint John Refugee and Learning Exchange. 

Steve is survived by his brothers Dr. Thomas (Thea) of Calgary, AB, David (Anna) of Upham, NB and Michael (Nancy) of Rothesay, NB; sisters Shirley Miller of Saint John, NB, Carole Beaton (Malcolm) of Nepean, ON and Jane Mallory of Sussex, NB; 14 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. 

In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by brothers-in-law Hal Miller, Earle Mallory, and nephew Graeme Owens. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Following cremation, and due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the family will be holding a private graveside service at Fernhill Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bobby’s Hospice and the Oncology team at Saint John Regional Hospital for the care provided to Stephen.
