It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shyann McQueen, who died on June 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 21, 1975, and brought home as an infant by her loving parents, Willa and Lloyd McQueen, who gave her a life full of love, support, and belonging.
Shyann spent most of her life in Rothesay, New Brunswick, though she spent some time away from home, always bringing her warmth and loyalty wherever she went. She was a talented hairdresser, not just for her skills but for the kindness and confidence she shared with everyone who sat in her chair. She was also a wonderful colleague—always ready to offer support and share ideas. People truly appreciated her caring nature.
Shyann loved simple joys—she was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand, lost in stories that inspired and comforted her. Alongside her love of reading, she had a big heart for animals, especially cats. She always had at least one furry companion and may have taken in a stray or 2, giving them a safe and loving home. Her cats were truly a cherished part of her family and are among those who survive her.
She was predeceased by Willa and Lloyd, who remained at the heart of her life and who she loved deeply. Later in life, Shyann reconnected with her birth family — a journey that brought her peace and happiness, especially in finding and forming a bond with her sister, Melissa.
She is survived by her devoted husband, David Betts; her mother-in-law, Beth McCormick-Bell (Mike); her father-in-law, Craig Betts; and her birth family — parents Bill and Betty Lou Smith; siblings Melissa Roy (Chris), Matt Smith (Mackenzie), and Craig Smith; nieces and nephew Gwen, Gabby, Sawyer, and Camille; and Shy’s chosen family — her girls.
Shyann was an avid reader, a fiercely dedicated friend, and someone who showed up for the people she loved, always. Her presence was quiet but powerful — the kind of soul whose loyalty never wavered. She will be forever remembered for her strength, her generosity of spirit, and her unwavering love.
Shyann’s family and friends would like to thank everyone who offered support during her illness along with the nurses and staff of 5AN at the Regional Hospital.
“Death isn’t the end. It’s just the next chapter.”
