Shirley Young

Young, G. Shirley, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025.  Shirley was predeceased by her parents Thomas & Corinne (Hamilton) Young, her brother and sister-in-law Thomas & Helen (O'Donnell) Young, her brother Robert Young, her sister Joy (Mackie) McAllister, and her nephew Thomas Young.  She is survived by her niece Donna James, Toronto, On., her great-nephew Andrew James, Toronto, On., her nephew Gary (Lynn) Young, Scarborough, On. and special friends Pam Johnston and Wade Saunders and Chloe the cat.

A graduate of Western University, London, On., and the University of Toronto, Toronto, On.  Shirley was a retired hospital administrator, who worked in various types and sizes of hospitals in four provinces. She was a member of several provincial and national health care committees and boards, including a term as President of the Catholic Health Association of Canada.  She was a lifetime member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, her professional group.  During her working years and in retirement, Shirley was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations.  Most recently she served on key committees of the Horizon Health Network through the Saint John Regional Hospital.  She was a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women-Saint John, and was on the Executive for many years in various positions. An avid traveler, she enjoyed sharing her adventures with family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).   At Shirley's request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John,  on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at 12 Noon with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  A reception will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Reception Centre following the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Assumption Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
