Shirley Viola Stevens

With sadness, but with gratitude for a long life well lived, the family of Shirley Viola Stevens announces her passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, May 19th, 2023. Shirley was born in Saint John on August 27, 1927; a daughter of the late Kay and Lavan Palmer, and the loving wife of the late George Stevens. Shirley worked as a Housekeeper and Nanny for the Zed family, and enjoyed bowling in ladies leagues, photography and music, and played cards in various clubs. Shirley was a originally a member of Exmouth Street United Church, and moved to Portland United Church. She is survived by her son Rodney Middleton Sr. (Lindalue), grandchildren Linda-Lue Middleton Jr., and Rodney Middleton Jr., as well as a great-granddaughter Chantal Woodhouse (Nick), and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Shirley was pre-deceased by her two half-sisters, Bernice Palmer and Lena Simpson.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday, May 25th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 26th at 12:00. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
