Shirley Anna McLaughlin

It is with broken hearts that the family of Shirley Anna McLaughlin announce her passing on August 4, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on October 31, 1937, to the late Prince Edward and Anna (nee. Hachey) Ingersoll.

Shirley is survived by her partner Murray Nealy; loving children: Cheryl Smith, Kevin (Pamela Jane) McLaughlin, and Pamela McLaughlin; brother Donald Ingersoll (Margaret); sister Elizabeth O’Donnell; half sister Mariam Whalen; grandchildren: Dale (Giselle Vienneau) Smith; Matthew (Kaylah) Smith; Jeremy McLaughlin; Joshua McLaughlin (Andrea Donovan); Shawna Smith; Justin (Jennifer) McLaughlin; Jocelyn (Joshua) Mills; and Rebecca Eatmon; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her granddaughter Stacy Smith; brother William Ingersoll; and sisters June Gallant and Greta King.

Shirley was a strong woman with drive. She loved hosting gatherings and was always running around making sure everyone was taken care of. Some of her best gatherings were the Girls Nights she hosted around Christmas time.

Shirley loved walking everywhere. Whether it was to Tim Hortons, to the store, or just around the neighbourhood, Shirley would make her way on foot. She also loved to go to the casino and enjoyed her slot machines.

The family would like to thank the staff working on the transitional unit 4AN at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the care and compassion during Shirley’s stay there.

Visitation for Shirley will be on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, August 11, 2025, in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel starting at 12:00 PM. Following the service guests are welcome to join the family for a reception at the funeral home.
