It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Shirley Ann (Garnett) McGrath which occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023. Born on May 23rd, 1935, in Saint John, she is the daughter of the late Alexander and Laura Gertrude Garnett. Shirley worked at the Match Factory, did cleaning at the Wandlyn/Colonial Inn and drove school bus for District 19. Shirley attended Garnett Settlement Christian Church and was involved with the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed house cleaning, camping, sewing & mending, playing cards and dancing. She loved flowers, the color pink, yardsales and thrift stores. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her sons Bill “Yogi” Walton of Garnett Settlement, Keith Walton of Edmonton, AB; daughters Judy Rogerson of Saint John, Gloria Nash of Fredericton, Susan Walton of Saint John, Lisa Halvorson (Roger) of Oregon; cousin Kathy Garnett of Willow Grove; daughter-in-law Rose Walton of Red Deer, AB; special friend Marlene Cyr of Saint John; her adored cat Bebe; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her first husband Bill, second husband Matthew, sons Robert and Kevin, daughter Barbara and sons-in-law Bruce and Arnold.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, May 19th from 2 to 6 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at Garnett Settlement Christian Church (661 Rte. 825 Garnett Settlement) on Saturday, May 20th at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Garnett Settlement Cemetery. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
