Shirley Evelyn Johnson

It is with sadness that the family of Shirley Evelyn (Atwood) Johnson wish to announce her passing which occurred on July 29, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Chester, NS, April 13, 1934.

As a young woman she made her way to Saint John, NB, to find work. While working as a waitress, she met the love of her life, Chet Johnson, with whom she would marry.  She took a bookkeeping course and started working as a temp with Office Overload, which led to a full time career with   Stevenson Co. until 1974.  She then got a position with C.A. Munroe until her retirement in 1983.  

Shirley was a longtime member of the Carleton Kirk United Church.

She will be missed by her nieces Maxine Malloch of Saint John, Marina Ilkay (Kemal) of Quispamsis and their children Jade Ilkay of Saint John and Kelsey Ilkay of Quispamsis, as well as her cherished cat, Pepper.   She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Johnson, her cousin Sally Jones and her grandparents, Herbert and Florence Atwood. 

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506) 646-2424.  At her request, following cremation, there will be visiting on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:00AM at which time the funeral service will be held at the Fundy Chapel.  Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.  Remembrances made to the SPCA, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
