Samuel Lewis Mitchell

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Samuel Lewis Mitchell, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.  Born 1943, in Saint John, he is the son of the late Thomas and Helen (Stevens) Mitchell.  Sam was a construction/carpentry worker.  He worked for Truline, John Hart and Truman Marrow.  He loved playing guitar and also enjoyed building and fixing things.  He was a jack of all trades and a skilled handyman.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   

Sam is survived by his loving and devoted wife Connie (Kelly) of 52 years; sons Douglas Mitchell (Anne Marie) of Halifax, Glen Mitchell (Trudy) of Fredericton; daughter Tanya Sturgeon (Sean) of Miramichi; siblings Bill Mitchell (Geraldine) of Saint John, Danny Mitchell (Brenda) of Lepreau, Joan Wilson (Doug) of Sussex, Allan Mitchell (Theresa) of Grand Lake, Harold Mitchell of Saint John, Jeanette Mitchell of Saint John; grandchildren Anthony, Hannah, William, Shelby, Abigail and Layla; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.  Along with his parents, Sam was predeceased by his siblings Dorothy, Betty, Judy, Wayne, Malcolm, Margaret, Doreen, Diane, Bobby and Marlene. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, January 19th from 2 to 8 p.m.  A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Saturday, January 20th at 2:30 p.m.  Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.  Donations in memory of Sam may be made to The Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
