It is with heavy hearts the family of Ruth May (Thomson) McGowan announces her passing, which occurred on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Saint John, NB, on May 2, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Leigh and Bessie (English) Thomson.
Ruth worked for many years with the finance department of city hall. She loved collecting stamps, colouring, playing games with Arlene, birdwatching with Tanya, and she was an avid knitter. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband D. Robert “Bob” McGowan; daughters Tanya McKinley (Mike) and Arlene Mcleod (Sandy); brothers Kenneth (Anne), William (Barbara) and Leonard (Georgette); sisters Norine Renfree (Paul), Elaine Belding (Jack) and Donna Leary (Mark); grandchildren Carrie McLeod (Tyler Hartt) and Jesse McKinley; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Palliative Care team at the Saint John Regional Hospital and to the Staff at Bobby's Hospice for their kindness and care of Ruth during her time there.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424) with visitation on Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Maces Bay Cemetery.
