Ronald Brown Obituary

Ronald James Brown passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 90. He was the beloved husband of June (Parfitt) Brown, and together they shared 67 years of marriage. Born in Toronto on May 8, 1935, he was the son of the late David and Grace (Dalgleish) Brown.

Ron is survived by his son Douglas J. Brown of Montreal, daughter Deborah (Kevin) Maber of Rothesay, and grandchildren Khyleigh Brown and Kelsey (Connor) Douthwright. He was proud to be a great-grandfather to Adelynn Douthwright, with another great-grandchild expected soon. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jack and sister-in-law Pauline Parfitt, nieces Kathi Beck and Jackie Parfitt, June’s cousin Peter Parfitt of Saint John, and several extended family members.

Ron spent 30 years teaching at the Saint John Institute of Technology, later known as NBCC. He had a long and dedicated military career, holding the rank of Major. He served with the Personnel Selection Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces, was an officer with the 3rd Field Regiment, a cadet commander with the 161 C.K. Beveridge Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets, and the commanding officer of 1691 Royal Canadian Army Cadets. Ron also received a pilot scholarship and was a member of the International Drill Team.

He stayed active in his community through volunteering with Silver Falls United Church, Royal United Services Institute, the Champlain Heights Parents Society, Boy Scouts, the NB Retired Teachers Association, and the St. Andrews Society. Earlier in life, he had been student council president at Saint John High and was a strong swimmer, a skill he kept throughout his life.

Outside of work and service, Ron enjoyed woodworking, model building, gardening, and time spent at the family cottage along the Belleisle Bay. That cottage was the heart of many family gatherings and special memories over the years. Above all else, Ron was devoted to his family, and they always came first in his life.

He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
