Roger Thébeau Obituary

After a short but valiant illness Roger Thébeau passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit, with his devoted wife Joanne and beloved daughter Amanda by his side.

Born in Minto, NB, to Leonard and Hilda (Caissie) Thébeau, Roger grew up with a strong work ethic, quick wit and a deep love for family- qualities that defined and guided him throughout his life.

Roger began his career as an ironworker and soon became a highly skilled and respected welder.  He took great pride in his work and found joy in providing for those he loved most.  Hardworking by nature, he was happiest when building, creating and lending a helping hand.

Above all, Roger was an exceptional and loving husband to Joanne (Tobias) Thébeau.  Together they shared a deep bond built on love, laughter and unwavering devotion.

He was a proud and devoted father to Amanda (Thébeau) McHugh (Ryan) and a cherished pépère to his best friend and grandson Tobias McHugh.  Their special bond brought him endless joy and pride and will continue to live on in every memory and story told.

Roger was creative, intelligent, and witty – a true jack of all trades – whether fixing, building or making people laugh.  He was a lifelong lover of sports and music, enjoying everything from drag racing, baseball, and hockey to Merle Haggard and Huey Lewis, as well as countless family games of cards and boardgames.

He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Lorraine (Bill), Noella, Jeanette, and Mark (Angie); his sister-in-law Angela (Roger) Gaudet; special niece Kati Gaudet and special nephew Jamey Gaudet; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Roger was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Hilda Thébeau; parents-in-law David and Eileen (Browning) Tobias; brother-in-law David Tobias Jr.; and two infant sisters.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Kyle and Derek Lavigne for their friendship and support.  Sincere gratitude is also extended to Dr. Amy Groom, Dr. Leah Bennett, Dr. Christian Mackin and Dr. Emily Love, and the compassionate nurses and staff in palliative, especially Cheyenne, ER, and oncology at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Nurse Elizabeth at Extramural, as well as the EMS paramedics, your care and compassion will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB, 506-646-2424. At Roger’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral. If desired, donations in his memory can be made to a food assistance program, palliative care facility, or organization supporting sick children.

Roger’s greatest legacy is the love he gave and the family he and Joanne built.  He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
