It is with a heavy heart that the family of Robert “Bob” Naismith announce his unexpected but peaceful passing on January 25, 2023. Born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, on October 14, 1953, he was the son of the late Andrew and Hazel (Abar) Naismith.
Bob has touched the lives of so many individuals throughout his life, from coaching numerous sports teams or the many jobs he has held over the years, the most important was Woolco, where he met his loving wife of 40 years, Joan. Over the years, he has always put everyone else’s interests before his own, whether it was at work or one of the many sports teams he coached.
An avid golfer, he spent many summers on the course, regularly miscounting strokes. He could be found golfing all over the Maritimes while collecting score cards from various courses throughout Joan and Bob’s travels.
One of Bob’s greatest accomplishments has been his contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation. Bob has been active every year that it has been in existence for the past 42 years and even received a plaque celebrating his contributions over the years. No Matter rain or shine, or even replaced hips, he still made sure to make the time to support the Terry Fox Foundation in every way he could. This is a tradition that his two sons will be continuing in remembrance of Bob.
In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his sister Sharon Turner; his many brothers and sisters-in-law: Dave and Gail Horgan, Mark and Janet Horgan, Mike and Helen Horgan, John and Kathie Horgan, Craig and Maureen Astle, Niah Redhead and Lynda Horgan, Donna Horgan, many nieces and nephews, and his two sons, Andrew (Ally McLaughlin) and David, both of whom exemplify all the best qualities of their father.
Along with his parents, Bob is predeceased by his brother-in-law Dave.
We would like to thank the staff of 4BN at the Regional Hospital and Dr. Poirier for the exceptional care that was given to Bob.
