It is with sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Dryden announce his passing on June 12, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Charlotte County on May 5, 1935, he was the beloved son of Robert and Jessie (Nee. McAleer) Dryden.
Bob grew up in the woods, where hard work became a way of life from an early age. As a boy, he logged timber and hauled it home with a team of horses, developing the strong work ethic and practical skills that would stay with him throughout his life.
He began his career with NBTel, working on telephone lines, setting poles and clearing line routes before later transferring to the engineering department. No matter his role, Bob was happiest when working with his hands. He was rarely idle and could often be found repairing cars, woodworking, or tending to one of his many projects.
In recent years, gardening became one of his greatest passions. His knowledge and skills were unmatched; he carefully organized and saved seeds, made his own compost, and cultivated thriving gardens year after year. Friends, family, and neighbors frequently sought his advice, knowing they could rely on his experience and wisdom.
Bob was deeply involved in his community and devoted countless hours to various organizations and volunteer efforts. In 1996, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained active in the public ministry for many years, finding great joy in sharing his faith with others.
A thoughtful and loving husband, Bob delighted in picking flowers and bringing them home to his wife, often surprising her with a fresh bouquet. He was also known for his stories, tales told with such conviction that listeners sometimes wondered if they could possibly be true, which sometimes they were.
Bob leaves behind the love of his life for the past 65 years Barbara; his children Hibbert (Cindy) Lori, Michelle and Kim (David); grandchildren Devon, Jessica, Roger, Bobbi-Jean and Cassidy; and great grandchildren Payton and Gracie.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by a son Steven; brothers John and James Dryden, and sister Mary Hoyt.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd, Saint John, NB, E2J 2G3; (506) 646-2424. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. In memory of Bob, donations can be made to the diabetes association or to jw.org.
