Robert Chenier Obituary

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Charles Chenier on Thursday, August 12th. Bob was the son of the late Robert Wilton Chenier and Mary Coletta (O’Keefe) Chenier and was born in Saint John, NB on October 2, 1945.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years Joan (Fitzpatrick) Chenier, his sons Noel (Joanne) and Troy , his so special grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriel and Victoria of whom he was so proud and made the sparkle in his eyes even brighter when bragging about them or in their presence. Also surviving are his younger brothers Albert “Abby” (Barbara) and Frank Chenier, their families and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his older brother John Chenier and his nephew Bradley Chenier and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bob lived for his family and was generous with his time, energy and love. He never aspired to greatness in life but he certainly achieved that as a son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle or friend.

Bob was a loyal and dependable employee at Rothesay Paper for the major part of his working career. He was athletic, enjoying sports and being active as long as his body allowed. He participated in many including baseball, hockey and basketball but particularly enjoyed curling as a member of Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club.

Art was a lifelong passion. He was a prolific and skilled artist and his works hang on many walls. He was a member of the Saint John Art Club for many years.

Bob was an incredibly gifted farmer and gardener. He shared his abundant harvest of vegetables and flowers freely with many family members, friends and neighbours –hoping only for an occasional pie in return.

He also had a desire to travel the world but limitations got in the way. He realised the few adventures in Florida and the cruise to Hawaii. He very much enjoyed many summers swimming, fishing, and boating in Belleisle and at the cottage in West Tennants Cove.

He was a friend to all living things – he instantly earned the trust of animals who sensed his golden heart. Bob was always adored by children who, too, saw his genuine, open heart.

He was courageous, determined and unstoppable – no matter the challenge.

He will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, courage, spirit and endurance in daily life. He was the greatest kind of person there is.

Bob, the light in your eyes may be gone but your spirit and love live on in all of us.

Visitation will be held from Fundy Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17th at 3:30PM; service at 4:30PM and a reception to follow. Interment to be scheduled at a later date.

Please note: At the request of the family, masks are encouraged to be worn throughout the visitation and funeral service.

Bob’s family sincerely appreciates the wonderful care he received from the doctors and entire staff of 4B North during his lengthy stay with them as well as on the Palliative Care Unit during his short time there. Our sincere thanks also to Dr. William (Jock) Corless for his attentive care over many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
