With his family by his side and love filling the room, Robert John Cameron passed away on March 1st, 2026, at the age of 80 years old. Born in England on September 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert and Nancy Cameron.
Robert proudly served in the British Army for nearly a decade, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and dedication. In 1972, he travelled to Canada for training at CFB Gagetown, a journey that would change his life forever. It was at a Legion dance that he met Joan, the love of his life. They married in 1973, beginning a partnership built on devotion, laughter and unwavering support.
In 1975, Robert began working as a crane operator at Saint John Drydock, where he remained until its closure. He then became a commissionaire at Port Saint John on the west side, faithfully serving for 20 years and retiring at the remarkable age of 75.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved to read and could devour the thickest novel in a day or two. He enjoyed detailed puzzles (especially the round ones!), NASCAR races, CTV News, The Big Bang Theory and science fiction movies. Summers were often spent camping in Maine, where he and Joan made lasting friendships and treasured memories with their daughter Carol and Justin. Robert enjoyed his daily routines of Tim Hortons coffee and trips to Dollorama for his favourite Social Tea Biscuits.
Robert never lost his love for his British roots. Marmite on toast was a staple for him, and his Yorkshire pudding was simply the best. When it came to food, seafood was king. Lobster and scallops being at the top of the list. He always looked forward to Joan’s Christmas Yule Log and her mincemeat pie every year. He cherished evenings spent at Carol’s house for supper, as Justin was his favourite cook, especially if lobster was involved.
Though quiet in nature, Robert’s love for his family spoke volumes. He showed his care not in grand gestures, but in presence, consistency, and the comfort of simply being there.
Robert will be dearly missed by the love of his life for 52 years, Joan; daughter Carol (Justin); sister-in-law Brenda (Eddy) Gaynes; nieces Melissa (Fritz) and Brittany (Brad); as well as many friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Home Care by Design for the compassionate care they provided to Robert over the past several years, especially Marisol, Hazel and Andrea, whose kindness and dedication meant so much to him and to our family.
