Richard Nice Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Richard William Nice announces his unexpected passing on September 17, 2025, at the age of 73. A lifelong resident of the West Side of Saint John, Richard was known for his dedication, sharp wit, and love for life’s simpler pleasures.

Born on July 22, 1952, Richard was the son of the late William Richard and Helen (Cook) Nice. He worked for 31 years at the Saint John Drydock; a job he took great pride in—missing only one day throughout his entire career. Later in life, he shifted roles, becoming a caregiver—a testament to his deep sense of compassion. In time, as his health changed, he found himself on the receiving end of care, always maintaining his humor and humility.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Diana, and their children: Ryan (Gina), Ronald, Bonnie (Murray Northrup), Amanda Cyr (Dale Forrest), and Danielle Nice. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren—whom he adored. Richard is also survived by his brother Gary Nice, sister Muriel Brennen (Jack), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Richard, and brothers Joel, Steven, and Eric.

A man of many interests, Richard loved fishing, tinkering with cars, and watching wrestling. He could often be found at EPR, cheering on his favorites at the horse races. And anyone who knew Richard knew of his great love for food—there was no meal he didn’t enjoy.

In November 2024, Richard moved into Shannex Tucker Hall, where he was cared for with great kindness and dignity. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the incredible nurses at Tucker Hall, Dr. Luan Le, Dr. Harry, and the compassionate team of the 3BS Medical ICU for their attentive care during Richard’s final months.

Richard was a proud, loyal, and generous man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His stories, laughter, and strong spirit will be missed dearly.
