Rev. Denis Harvey Matheson

It is with great sadness that the family of Rev. Denis H. Matheson, loving husband of Elizabeth (Hetherington) Matheson, wish to announce his passing which occurred on April 13, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, August 8, 1936, to the late Cleveland and Jean (Henderson) Matheson.

He had been employed with Lantic Sugar, Labatt's Brewery, the Canadian Armed Forces (Canadian Air Force), as an advertising production manager for trade publications in Montreal, as a school teacher and was an ordained minister with the United Church of Canada. He held a BBA and his BEd. from UNB and his M. Div. from the Atlantic School of Theology.

He was an avid bridge player, was a member of the Knights of Pythias and was very involved with Toastmasters over the years.

Besides his beloved wife Elizabeth, he is survived by his son, Jon (Ginny) Matheson, his daughters, Elizabeth Anne (Edwin) Hughes, Margaret 'Maggie' (Elaine Lewis) Matheson, and Susan Matheson, sister-in-law, Dawn Matheson, grandchildren, Aimee, Christina, and Maggie May, great-grandchild, Haven, along with his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Terry Matheson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424), with visiting on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 11:00am – 1:00pm at which time the funeral service will take place in the Fundy Chapel. Remembrances made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Kidney Foundation, or the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
