Raymond Marley Obituary

March 25, 1933 - December 21, 2023

On December 21, 2023, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on Victory Lane, at the age of 90, Raymond Gordon Marley was peacefully called home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen (Rushton) Marley; children, Grant (Denise) Marley, Sharon Marley (Tim Chandler), and Angela Bruce;grandchildren, Sarah (Dennis) Beman, Catherine Marley, Tyler Martin (Jenna Evans), Hannah Bruce, and great-grandson Dax Beman; nephews, Bruce Hurst, and Harry Hurst; nieces, Shelley Meed, and Robin Jensen; brother-in-law, Victor Morrell; cousins and friends.

Ray was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Alice Marley; sister, Barbara Hurst; brother-in-Law, Philip Hurst; brother-in-law, Ronald Rushton; and sister-in-Law, Dorothy Morrell.

Ray was born in Saint John and resided in Fairvale (Rothesay). His lifelong career was with the Canadian Pacific Railway and later CP Express & Transport.

In his younger years, many days were spent with family boating and snowmobiling on the KennebecasisRiver. Ray was a talented carpenter, and he built several family homes.  He coached Little League baseball.  He took the family on many road trips andcamping throughout the Maritimes, New England, and Florida.  Time spent with extended family in Woodstock, NB was always an annual highlight.

Retired for 35 years, Ray kept active. Some of his favorite things were gardening, going on long drives down the coast for seafood, and picnicking with Eileen. He loved family gatherings. He enjoyed having campfires on the beach.  Ray especially cherished the time spent with his four grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling in a league with the Kings Way men's group and often attended their seniors’ events. Ray was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan.  He was rarely beat in the game of checkers. Ray was very competitive in weekly Phase 10 games with Eileen and their dear friends.

Ray loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all of his heart. He attended Crossroads Cathedral for many years and later Waypoint Church in Quispamsis. He was a colon cancer survivor of over 12 years and his faith was evident in that battle.

Ray was a faithful husband, a loving dad, and a devoted Grampy.  He always had a smile and great sense of humor.  He will be dearly missed.

The family is sincerely grateful to the management and staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing for their outstanding care of Ray in his final months.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from noon to 2 PM with the celebration of life service at 2:30 PM in the chapel. Interment will be held at a later date in Ocean View Cemetery.
