Raymond Defazio Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Raymond Harold Defazio age 86 on February 2, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born in Saint John on the 2nd day of August 1937.  He was the son of the Late Nicholas and Madeline (Boucher) Defazio.

In the 60’s Raymond was owner and operator of Metcalf Service Station in Saint John North until he changed his career to Auto Body Repair in the late 60’s early 70’s when he established Ray’s Auto Body.  In the early 80’s he had Harbour Auto Body until he retired in the late 90’s.  Raymond and Margaret then moved to Cambridge Narrows around 2010 where they became owners and operators of The Holiday Restaurant until 2015 when they finally retired.

Raymond’s enjoyments were Hunting, fishing, boating and of course spending his winters in Florida. He also enjoyed his time spent with his family, especially the grandchildren

Ray is survived by his wife of 24 years Margaret (Savard) Defazio of Saint John; sons Randy (Pamela) Defazio of Saint John and Angus (Becky) Spalding of Edmonton, Alberta; Daughters Brenda Defazio of Saint John, Debbie (James) Flecknell of Willow Grove, Laurie (Drew) Pitman of Saint John, Bobbie Jo Bosse (John Bordage) of Saint John and Leisa (Eric) Dakawa of Edmonton, Alberta.  Ray is also survived by several grandchildren who are Amanda Martin, Alex McConnachie, Jamie Flecknell, Randy Flecknell, Jonathan Kennedy, Jaret Defazio, Andrew Pitman, Cassie Pitman, Sam Spaulding, Avery Spaulding, Sophie Dakawa, Hudson Dakawa and Francis Dakawa; Great Grandchildren who are Emma Flecknell-Kirkpatrick, Olivia Whitenect, Sadie Defazio, Jack Kennedy, Andy Kennedy, Zachary Aevis, Gavin Savoie, Ande Martin, Ivy Martin and Kaiden McConnachie: Brothers are Gordon Defazio, Kenny (Cheryl) Defazio, Gary Defazio and Nicky (Carol) Defazio; Sisters are Shirley Lester, Laura (Claude Michaud, Linda King and Madeline (Michael) Boudreau along with several nieces and nephews.

Raymond was predeceased by his late wife Blondine Defazio; Brothers Douglas, Ernest, Gerald, Daniel and his sister Jesse.

A special thank you to Alexia Chiasson for all the support that she gave along with the amazing Paramedics, Fire Department, Police, Dr. Andreani and of course the nurses and doctors of Cardiac Intensive Care.  You were all so compassionate and caring – for the short time Raymond was there.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506-646-2424). Visiting hours will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, and the Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Funeral Home Chapel.
