R. Kevin McDonald

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of R. Kevin McDonald, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the age of 82.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Dawn McDonald, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, love and commitment, and family. Kevin was a father to Patti Forgeron (Stephen) and Ted McDonald (Dana) and a proud grandfather to Erica, David, Alex Forgeron; Aidan and Trevor McDonald. Kevin's grandchildren referred to him as "Their Papa" - the one who would read them "Walter the Farting Dog" and the many stories that became family legend.

As a young man, Kevin had a knack for adventure - and sometimes trouble along the way. He wasn't always one to follow the rules, but he was true to himself, kind and generous to those in need.

Kevin was an avid sports enthusiast whose television was rarely far from a baseball, hockey, football, or basketball game. He played hockey for the St. Thomas Tommies and made enduring friends while playing hockey for the Blacks Harbour Silver Kings and the Brunswick Oldtimer. He also coached the first Fundy High School Boys' hockey team - a role he took on with passion and dedication.

If Kevin wasn't watching sports or working in his vegetable garden - he was reading or completing crossword puzzles. Kevin was an English teacher who truly cared about his students. He had a gift for connecting with people from all walks of life, relating to their struggles, both in and outside the classroom.

Kevin will be remembered for his ability to recite Shakespeare, his quick wit, his enduring friendship and loyalty, and helping those in need. He will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren, family and friends.

the family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians who provided care; the nurses and support staff of 4CS who cared for Kevin with compassion and dignity through his final illness.

In keeping with Kevin's spirit, a Celebration of Life will be held at Kevin's "piece of paradise" - The Homestead, 29 South Street, St. George, on July 10, 2026, from 3 to 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. George & Area Food Bank.
