Phyllis Donelda (Greer) Sambles

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Phyllis Donelda (Greer) Sambles on February 23, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  She was born in French Village, NB on May 3, 1934 to the late Phillip and Annie (Fullerton) Greer and was the loving wife to her late husband, Ernest Sambles who passed away in 2019.

Phyllis began her career as a Clerk in the Billing Department at the Saint John General Hospital. Her goal was to have a family though, so after her first son came along, she left the work force and spent her time at home raising her children and looking after her family.  Her and Ernie enjoyed many past times together, and her children remember fondly them going out to dances at the legion hall, camping, golfing, and any other number of things.  Phyllis was a funny lady, who liked to joke around with you, but she was also a quiet person.  She was a past member of the RCL Legion Branch #69, she enjoyed BINGO and playing cards with her granddaughters, cribbage with her care workers, but above all else, she enjoyed being a grandmother.  She was a wonderful mother but being a Nannie was the absolute joy of her life.  Her grandchildren were her everything and were given the lifelong gift of many, many lasting memories with their loving nannie.  She was taken far too soon and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Roslyn), Randy (Julie), and David (Mary); grandchildren, Bradley (Allysa), Brandon, Jennifer (Marc), Emily (Chris), Chase, Neveah and Noah; great grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Jaxson, Callie, Hunter and Luke; brothers Leslie and Lawrence along with many cousins and friends.      

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Shirley and Winston. 

Phyllis’ family would like to take this time to send a special thank you to Home Care by Design for their great service and especially to Laura, Elaine and Brianna for the wonderful care and compassion and friendship they provided to Phyllis in her last remaining years.  Your kindness will never be forgotten. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Due to these uncertain times and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held with burial to follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.  Extended family and friends are invited to watch the service online here at https://www.oneroomstreaming.com/view/authorise.php?k=1614290771102831.  For those who wish, donations in Phyllis’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
