Paula Patterson Obituary

Paula Marie Patterson (Hiltz)
May 20, 1953 – October 12, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paula Marie Patterson (Hiltz), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Paula passed away after a courageous battle surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love that will forever be remembered by all who knew her.

Born on May 20, 1953, in Glace Bay NS where she spends her childhood before moving to Saint John NB. Her life and work took her throughout Ontario. For the last twenty years she traveled widely with her career and her husband John before settling back in Wickham NB, where they built their forever home together.

The eldest daughter of Marguerite (Hiltz) Bond (James) and Eugene Hiltz, Paula quickly learned the value of hard work and responsibility. Helping to raise her eight younger siblings, she became a natural caregiver and leader, qualities that shone throughout her life. A true chameleon or jack of all trades, Paula excelled in every role she took on. She was an entrepreneur who successfully ran multiple businesses, a dedicated professional who thrived in management and most meaningfully a resident relations manager in retirement homes where she devoted herself to the elderly until her own retirement.

Paula found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments. She loved music, often singing and dancing with her children and especially with her sisters. She had a passion for gardening and adored her grandchildren who were her greatest pride and joy. Paula was also delighted in raising her chickens each lovingly named after her sisters.

Those who knew Paula will remember her for her biggest heart, her radiant smile and the way she made everyone feel welcome and valued. To her family, friends, and coworkers or anyone she knew, she was a source of comfort and a true friend. People just felt better after seeing her as John would always note.

Paula will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, John Patterson; her children, Andrea (Kevin) Street daughters Emily and Julia, and Tabatha (Michel) Khoury with their children Max and Jazlynn and her step children, Nola Hickes and Amanda Kotsabasakis.. She also leaves behind her siblings: Garry Hiltz (Beatriz Van Der Gaag) Donna Armstrong (Harold Stevens) Valerie (Laurie) Moody, Cindy MacDonald (Brent Lemon) Jamie (Paul) Dempsey, Allen Bond (Elaine Hill) Kim Bond (John Titus) Sheryl (John) Gray, Michelle (Robert) French, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who were blessed to know her.

Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely and the memories she created with all who knew her.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will take place on Oct 24, 2025, from 2-4 with a funeral service immediately following at 4pm. Reception will take place in the Fundy Funeral Home Reception Center following the service.
