With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Richard Garnett surrounded by his loving family on November 9, 2018 at Loch Lomond Village. He was born in Saint John on January 26, 1949 to the late Norman and Evelyn (Armstrong) Garnett and was the loving husband to his wife Kay (Redmond) Garnett.
Paul was a member of the Royal New Brunswick Regiment of the Army, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69 for many years and was proud to have served his country. He worked as a painter at Loch Lomond Villa for over 26 years and really enjoyed his work. Paul was not a quiet man. He was the life of the party and didn’t hold anything back. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and anything outdoors related and shared that with love with his children. He had a great singing voice and shared it often with those he cared about, sometimes even those he didn’t know. He liked to cook, despite not always being that good at it, and he enjoyed his TV shows. After retirement, he got to take the trip of a lifetime with his wife and go to Ireland, a trip never forgotten. He was above all, a family man. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, a devoted brother, and a great friend. He was taken far too soon and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his wife Kay, he is survived by his children; Karl (Jennifer), Eileen and Katie (Rodger), his adored 5 grandchildren; Gregory, Jessica, Khalid, Delilah and Hunter, 5 brothers; Bruce (Janet), Brian (Darlene), Kevin (Elaine), Michael (Susan) and Douglas (Tabatha), 7 sisters; Norma, Sandra (John), Joanne (Gordon), Donna (Charles), Charlene (David), Laurie (Ross) and Maureen (Michael), along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Roberta and her husband Walter Matchett, his brother Roy and his brother-in-law Gordon Blacklock.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm with a Legion Tribute Service to be held at 7pm. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will be held following the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69. The family would like to take this time to say thank you to all the staff of Maple House, Loch Lomond Village. For those who wish, memorial donations made in Paul’s name to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
