With broken hearts the family of Paul Donald McHugh announces his passing on November 14, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Devoted husband to Joan (nee. Lizotte) McHugh, Paul was born in Saint John, NB on July 24, 1937, to the late Maurice and Margaret (nee. Leary) McHugh.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Joan McHugh; children James “Donald” (Gaby) McHugh and Cathy (Gregory) Barry; son-in-law Bob Whynot; grandchildren: Tiffany (Brad), Garrett (Meghan), Landon (Sarah), Renata, and Santiago; great-grandchildren: Leland, Rowen, and Isla; brother Blair McHugh; sisters Marie Mabey and Margaret (Bobby) Burke; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Paul was predeceased by his daughter Wendy Whynot; brothers Gerald and John McHugh; nephew Boomer McHugh; and sister-in-law Paula McHugh.
Paul was a proud Supply Tech for the Canadian Armed Forces for 37 years. Being stationed all over the country, he was given the opportunity to become a member of multiple legions. A loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Paul spent over 50 years affiliated with them with his last branch being Branch 58. During their retirement, Paul and Joan spent their winters in Florida enjoying 30 years of sunshine, warm weather, and the company of many friends. They spent a lot of time at the VFW with Canadian and American Veterans sharing several stories with one another.
An avid sports fan and player, Paul enjoyed numerous sports. In his younger years he loved playing hockey and baseball, leading him to eventually become a hockey referee and a baseball umpire. Hockey and baseball were Paul’s favourite sports to play and watch. No matter the ups and downs they faced, he was a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Visitation for Paul will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 11:40 AM. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will begin at 11:45 AM with a Celebration of Life directly following at 12:00 PM in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. After the service, the family invites friends to join them for a time of refreshments and remembrance in the Fundy Funeral Home Reception Centre.
