It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick John Lemay on November 12, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Patrick was born in Montreal, PQ, on April 15, 1934, to the late John Joseph and Marie Leona (Fournier) Lemay.
Patrick worked with the Pacific Press as a Journeyman Mailer and was a C.E.P Union Member for many many years. He worked with both the Montreal Gazette and then later the Vancouver Sun. He started out in the mailroom of the Gazette and worked his way up, earning his education to work the big presses. You wouldn’t know it if you just met him or only spoke to him about work and other small topics, but Patrick was quite the entertainer. At the age of 15, he started working at the concession stand at a carnival and learned from the acts there how to be a magician. He did fire-eating tricks and trained dogs for the animal acts, and later took his talents into homes and businesses to entertain at parties and events. He liked to imitate, impeccably, artists like Bing Crosby and Dean Martin and he was very talented when it came to painting with oils. He was a very social person but was also introverted when not the main attraction at an event, as “The Amazing Patrick”. He liked to play billiards and was very skilled when it came to doing the trick shots. He lived in Montreal and then Vancouver for most of his life, returning to Saint John to be with his family, he lived there to end his days. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Patrick is survived by his daughters, Donna and Sharon Lemay; grandchildren, Jamie, Jessie and Moldi; his brother, John Lemay; sister, Leona Rodrigue; his special nephew and nieces, Rose Lemay, Normand Therien, Carmen Therien, Sandy Dawson, Helene Dixon and Lee Anne Lemay and their families; the mother of his children and his former spouse who he remained good friends with, Evelyn (Gwilliam) Lemay; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Albert Lemay; sisters Mary Sauve, Lynda Leplaine, and Rose Delage; and nephew Andrew Dawson.
