Neil C. Hobson

The family of Neil C. Hobson are saddened to announce his sudden passing at home on Sunday January 29th, 2023.

Born in England on June 26, 1942, he was the eldest child of the late Daisy (Carter) and the late Rev. Keith Hobson.  The family moved to Canada in 1949, eventually settling in Saint John.

Neil married Susan (Hayward) in 1977 and in 1983 they welcomed their only child, son Gregory.  Neil was a tax auditor with Revenue Canada for over 30 years, retiring in 2005.  Retirement allowed he and Susan to take an occasional trip to the States, and he would also take trips with his brothers on occasion to attend air shows or train expos.  Neil enjoyed time spent on his computer with his flight and train simulator programs.  For many years, until just recently, Tuesday evenings would find him singing in the bass section of the Carleton Choristers.  He was a long-standing member of the Germain Street United Baptist Church.

Besides his wife and son, Neil is survived by brothers:  Clive (Elaine), Salisbury, NB, and Roy (the late Doris), Saint John, NB; sisters:  Joy Hobson, Saint John, and Heather Telman , England; sisters-in-law:  Valerie Bogle (George) and Carol Hayward; brother-in-law James Hayward; as well as by several nieces and nephews, and his extended family in England.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Adrian and his nephew Brandon McKinley. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday February 1, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday February 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm.  Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a local Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
