Nancy McGrath Obituary

With deep sorrow, the family of Nancy Louise McGrath announces her passing at Bobby’s Hospice on June 6, 2025. Born in Saint John, NB, on July 4, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Macaulay.

Nancy was a devoted and loving mother to Kimberly McGrath-Round (David), Paul McGrath (Michelle), Michael McGrath (Heather), Edie McGrath (Scott), the late Stephen McGrath, and the late Buddy McGrath. She was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren Daryl, Amber, Adam, Courtney, Cassie, Patrick, Cullen, Aaron, Jacob, Jesse, Kyle, Kaleb, Maryssa, Paul, Taylor, Samantha, Andrew and Ashley; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also mourned by her daughters-in-law Tara, Rachelle, and Laura; her sister Sandi; sisters-in-law Nicole and Mary; and several nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.

She was also predeceased by 14 of her siblings.

Known for her spirited personality, Nancy once enjoyed referring to herself as “Nancy Ticklebridges Louise Anne Macaulay.” Over the years, she held a variety of jobs, from caring for twins at the age of 16 for a local doctor, assisting local teachers, working as an elevator operator at Manchester’s, to roles at City Laundry and MGM as a film revisor. She also managed a large apartment complex, demonstrating her work ethic and dedication.

Above all, Nancy’s greatest pride was her family. She raised six children with boundless love and care. Her heart was open, generous, and full of warmth. A natural competitor, she loved games—especially BINGO, golf, darts, and cards—and brought joy and laughter to every family gathering. Nancy also enjoyed fishing and hunting with her boys, family and friends.

She absolutely loved Elvis and considered herself his biggest fan.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy defined by love, resilience, and joy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who supported Nancy throughout the years, the staff of the Orthopedic Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and the compassionate teams at the Palliative Care Unit and Bobby’s Hospice. Special thanks to her palliative care physicians: Dr. Love, Dr. Makin, Dr. O’Brien, and Dr. Kerr.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). As per Nancy’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Donations in her memory to Bobby’s Hospice would be deeply appreciated by the family.
