With heavy hearts, the family of Mitzi Edna Gertrude Withers announces her peaceful passing on June 13, 2026, at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home.
Born in Bayswater, New Brunswick, on January 15, 1934, Mitzi was the beloved daughter of the late Harold and Millie (Ganong) Baxter.
Mitzi will be lovingly remembered by her children: David Murray (Ruth) Stevens, John Harold (Judy) Stevens, James Anthony Stevens, Sara Jane Sherwood, and Helen Patricia (Terry) Laite; her sister, Sheila Ann George; her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Left to mourn her loss as well is her special friend, Carol, who faithfully accompanied her to her weekly hair appointments and brought much joy and companionship to her life.
Mitzi dedicated more than 30 years of her life to nursing as a Registered Nurse, providing compassionate care to countless individuals. In addition to her nursing career, she successfully owned and operated a children's clothing store for many years.
Raised on a family farm, Mitzi developed a lifelong love of animals and the outdoors. As a young girl, she took responsibility for caring for the farm's dogs, cats, pigs, and cows, a role she embraced with pride. Throughout her life, she found joy in nature, tending her gardens, watching birds, and exploring the outdoors. She and her husband, Frank, especially enjoyed spending time together canoeing and embarking on outdoor adventures.
A woman of many talents and interests, Mitzi sang in her church choir and was an avid knitter, quilter, and painter. Her passion for quilting led her to become an active member of the Quilting Guild. Her appreciation for the natural world also inspired her involvement with the Conservation Council. Mitzi was also a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of the New Democratic Party, a cause she championed throughout her life.
Besides her parents, Mitzi was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank; her son-in-law, Allan Sherwood; her brother-in-law, Stanley George; and her grandson, Jeremy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lois, Tammy, and the entire team of home care workers whose kindness, compassion, and dedicated care brought comfort to Mitzi and her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Family and friends are invited to join in a time of fellowship and refreshments in the reception center following the service.
