Michael "Mickey" Vincent MacMullin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Mickey" MacMullin at the Loch Lomond Villa on Saturday August 8th 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, NS on Nov 7,1940, he was one of 15 children of the late John and Stella (Dickson) MacMullin.

From those simple roots he built a life of  meaning and impact. Mickey shared 62 beautiful years married, and 67 years together with his beloved Jean (MacInnis) from Sydney,NS. Together they built a life filled with family, friendship, hockey, music, laughter and countless memories. Their love was evident in the simple moments, their tender goodnight pecks and especially their favourite kitchen dances - because sometimes you didn't need music or a dance floor when you had each other. They met back in May of 1959 at the Spain Pavilion, on the Mira where in true Mickey fashion, he watched and critiqued her dancing then several days later asked her to dance, and then fell in love.

Mickey was the proud father of four sons : Michael (Darla) of Saint John, Brian (Heather) of Moncton, Dana (Nicole) of Rothesay and Chad (Jenn) of Quispamsis.  He was also a much loved grandfather to his grandchildren : Vanessa(Rob),  Jon(Tiffany), Kaley(Sam), Scott, Kyle, Carter ,Justin, Alex, Matt , Kyle (Sarah) and Nick (Alison) and his great grandchildren : Eli, Sawyer, Owen and Hannah. His family was his pride and joy!

Mickey had a lifelong passion for hockey, dedicating countless hours to the game he loved, even years after his boys were finished playing. He coached, served on the executive side, supported teams and spent countless hours at the rink. But Mickey's involvement in hockey was never simply about winning games, it was about the kids! He believed every child deserved the chance to play. If a family couldn't afford equipment, he would help. If a child needed a ride, he would drive them. He gave his time, his money and his heart to make sure no child was left on the sidelines because of circumstances beyond their control. He also spent many hours helping with baseball and curling. Hockey also gave Mickey one of his favourite things to talk about- and talk he certainly did! Mickey loved telling stories and anyone who knew him knows that one story could quickly become three, with several completely different topics somehow making their way into the conversation within a matter of minutes. And when hockey came up, you could always count on a conversation about Sidney Crosby. Mickey loved Crosby so much that we affectionately called him his "fifth son". He could talk hockey for hours, and there was never any doubt about how much the game, and the people who played it meant to him.

Mickey was a hardworking man who spent most of his career as a mechanical supervisor, taking him and his family to Labrador City, Bathurst and Saint John.He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. After retirement, Mickey found a new passion in woodworking. With his skilled hands and creative mind, he built beautiful furniture and toys over the years. Each piece was crafted with patience,care, pride and a few curse words thrown in along the way! His woodworking became another way for him to create something lasting - just as he spent his life creating memories with the people he loved. Mickey also loved the simple pleasures of life : playing cards, telling stories, laughing with family and friends, a good glass of scotch and his favourite "pinot NOIRE" . These are some of the moments his family will treasure most.

Mickey leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply by the years he lived or the things he accomplished. His legacy lives in the children he helped get onto the ice, the players and families he supported, the beautiful furniture he created, the stories that will continue to be told, and most importantly in the life he built with those he loved so deeply. He was one of those rare people who made a difference simply by showing up: at the rink, in the workshop, around the card table, or in the kitchen dancing with Jean. His stories may have wandered from one topic to the other but the story of Mickey's life was simple: he loved deeply, worked hard, helped others and made sure that the people around him mattered.

He is survived by his loving wife Jean, his 4 sons and their families, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Sisters Theresa(Amby) in Truro and Patricia "Tish" (Ernie) in Sydney. Sister-in-law Paula(Bob) in PEI and numerous nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by brothers Roderick (Anna) , Patrick, John (Anna), Peter(Goldie), George(Joan), Daniel(Margaret), Gregory, Ralph(Mary), and sisters Sarah(Bert), Margaret(John), Mary and Betty. Brother in laws Sandy (Kay)and Edward(Liz) and sister-in-law Mary(Phil). You were a wonderful husband, dad, Grampie, great Grampie, brother, uncle, friend and so much more. Your stories, your laughter, your kindness and your love will live on in all of us.  Rest easy Mickey, give Crosby a call when you get there, and keep telling those stories 

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road. Visitation will take place at the Fundy Funeral Home August 17th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church August 18th at 11 am.  With a reception to follow.
