He worked as a machinist for A. O. Pope Ltd and was a bee keeper. He loved to be under a car or truck doing repairs. He did piloting with Joe MacNeil escorting beams out of town. He also worked as an insulator at the Irving Pulp Mill, the Irving Oil Refinery and Saint John Ship Building Ltd. and was a member of Local #131.
Besides his wife Annette he is survived by his son Michael Jr (Rachel), his daughter Judith Ann Smith, brothers; Randy (Darlene), and Kevin (Annette), sisters; Janice Gaudet (John), Sharon Barry, Patsy Parks (Judith), Marilyn LeBlanc (Raymond), grandchildren; Trevor, Katherine Ann, Cheyenne, Corey and Jonathon, great-grandchildren; Riley and Rylan along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
