May Kinch Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of May Phyllis Kinch on June 5th, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital while surrounded by her loved ones.  May was born on April 22nd, 1946, in Alberton Prince Edward Island, the daughter of George and Gladys (Barnett) Kinch.  May later ventured away from her hometown to Saint John NB where she would raise her family of six children Sheri McAulay (James), Shelly Kinch, Rocky Hachey, Geraldine Seaward (Sean), Roxanne Hachey and predeceased daughter Paula Hachey.

May experienced many joys, passions and accomplishments throughout her life. In summers she looked forward to visiting her home on Prince Edward Island. For many years she was a proud employee of St Josephs hospital here in Saint John. She was honored to be a member of the Saint John Christmas Parade Committee for several years. May devoted much of her time to learning about and helping those struggling with addiction. The health and wellbeing of her family and friends was a priority. She would often request that loved ones take note of the next weather alert or encourage them to “read this” in the attempt to share the latest insight on how to live our healthiest and happiest life.

May worked hard, was always on her feet, willing to pitch in, and someone who knew how to cook and keep a house clean. She fed everyone, she was a wonderful cook and baker famous for hosting her turkey dinners with the most amazing stuffing and countless desserts including chocolate cake with boiled frosting and her unmatched carrot cake. May was always inspired to create something evident just looking around her home. She found inspiration in a new recipe, discovering new inspirational quotes, painting, sewing, and of course a new outfit pic. Every year for the month of December she worked tirelessly baking each family member their favorite treats for Christmas. She would often host her neighbors for a tasty dessert and cup of tea and of course all this with CNN playing in the background. May found joy in singing and dancing to her favorite singers from the golden oldies. Of most importance was her devotion to the Lord. She dedicated many years to the Cursillo Movement spreading Gods light and love. She believed wholeheartedly that prayer would keep her family and friends healthy and safe. This quote “with god anything is possible” is a favorite that she painted and displayed in her home.

“Nan” adored and cherished time spent with her grandchildren Jonathan (Maggie). Adrian (Kayla), Daniel (Catherine), Jeremy (Adrienne), Evan (Carly), Nikola, Cameron, Deion, Mikhail, Julie (Alex) and her great grandchildren Liam, Logan, Emma-Rose, Lara-Maude, Maria-Rose, Layne and Brooks.

May will be missed by siblings Jack Kinch, Barry Kinch (Nora), Boyd Kinch, Pearl Levesque, Linda Taylor (Keith), Wilma Beamish (Gerald) and Roma Matthews both with whom she shared a special bond, her brother-in-law Clarence Arsenault, sister-in-law Lila Kinch and countless nieces and nephews.

May has been reunited with her parents, Gladys and George Kinch, her daughter Paula Hachey, her sisters Susan Murphy, Naveta Chappel, Betty Arsenault, Faye Ellis, Georgie Thomas and Margaret Jeffery, her brothers George Kinch Jr., Blair Kinch, Douglas Kinch and her dear friend and mentor Ada Pascal.

May received unconditional care and compassion from many wonderful people and professionals over the past several months especially noted is music performer Geordie Roberts, Kindred homecare staff, Dr C Morriscey, Regional Hospital ER & 5CN staff, along with many dear friends and neighbors.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  Family and friends will be welcomed on Wednesday June 10th from 4pm to 8pm.  A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday June 11 at 11am.
