May Francis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of May E. Francis (nee Long) from west Saint John on July 29th, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

May leaves behind her husband David C. Francis, her daughter Christine Price (Phil Sarault), her son Michael C. Francis (Kelly), her beloved grandchildren Sean, Evan, Emily and Avery, her sisters Margaret Charter, Jeana E Long, brother Robert Flett and her many nieces and nephews.

May was born in Northern Arm NFLD in 1941. May lived in Saint John as a child and moved with her family to Cornwall, Ontario. As a young woman May would live in Ottawa, Toronto, and Calgary during her time with the Salvation Army Corp and college before returning to Saint John to marry David in 1968.

During May’s life she was active with the Second Lancaster Baptist Church and volunteering with their Head start program for children. May and David ran a successful business together and additionally May provided daycare for many families over the years.

In later years May enjoyed travelling to Ottawa to visit her family there often. May and David became Snowbirds in the winter months travelling down the eastern coast of the U.S. having many adventures with their friends and family in the sunny weather. May kept in touch with her sisters via hours of conversation through phone calls. May enjoyed spending time with her “coffee club” and would talk of how much those friendships meant to her.

May’s family and friends will miss her spirit and enthusiasm for life.

The family would like to thank the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology and Palliative care units for the compassionate care May received.

Donations to a charity of the donor’s choice in May’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

There will be no service or visitation at the family’s request. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time.
