Maurice Robert Maloney

February 19, 1933 ~ August 13, 2011 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Maurice Robert Maloney, husband of the late Anne Marie (Leger) Maloney passed away peacefully on Saturday August 13, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1933 in Saint John he was the son of the late Alfred and Gladys (Goodine) Maloney. Besides his parents and wife Anne Marie of 56 years, who passed away July 29, 2011, he was predeceased by brothers Bernard Maloney and Vincent Maloney; sister Eileen Surette and son-in-law Brian Lund.

Maurice attended St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Grand Bay and was a choir member for over fifteen years.  He was very creative and could often be found behind his old typewriter writing short stories or poetry.  Maurice also loved music, singing, playing piano, gardening and photography.  He had an outgoing personality and loved to try to “get a laugh” from someone.  Family was very important to Maurice and his greatest joy in his later years was spending time with his grandchildren.

Maurice is survived by his six children Dan of Saint John, Jim (Kim) of Riverview, Kevin (Denise) of Quispamsis, Christine Sands (Paul) of Saint John, Rosanne Maloney of Rothesay, and Jill Hayward (Les) of Saint John, sisters Marguerite Davidson (Duncan) of Bains Corner, Mary Benoit (Clovis) of Saint John, Dorothy Swain of Ottawa and Geraldine Donovan (Bill) of Rothesay; fourteen grandchildren: Jeffrey & Lee Maloney, Josh & Shauna Sands, Kayla, Brandon & Colin Maloney, Nicholas & Lindsey Maloney, Melissa, Ryan & Gina Hayward, Jack & Sarina Lund, one great grandchild Cohen King, nieces and nephews, and daughter-in-law Elaine Maloney.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). By request there will be no visitations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Matthew’s Catholic Church on Tuesday August 16, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. Interment for Maurice and Anne Marie will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Maurice may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the support workers at Centracare for their amazing dedication to the care of our Dad.
