Maurice Winston Brooks

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maurice Winston Brooks announce his passing on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Gagetown, New Brunswick, on February 6, 1942, Maurice was the son of the late Percy and Georgie (Knor) Brooks.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Maurice worked for Scott Brothers for 25 years. His craftsmanship extended far beyond his profession and led to a lifelong passion for building, including his pride and joy—a handcrafted cedar strip canoe—along with many other projects. An avid outdoorsman, Maurice loved hunting, snowshoeing, camping, and especially gathering around a large bonfire. He was happiest when he was busy and was rarely found sitting still.

Maurice shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Muriel. The two loved to dance and could often be found square dancing together to a favorite song, creating cherished memories for all who watched them.

Maurice will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Muriel (Lindsay) Brooks; his son Bill (Julie) Brooks; his grandchildren Jamie, Kate-Lyn, Sarah, Courtney, and Cameron; and his great-grandchildren Peter, Felix, Hayden-River, Amelia, Sage, and Robert.

He was predeceased by his sons Douglas and Donald Brooks, his brother Gene Brooks, and his sister Alice Boutlier.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m., with a funeral service at Grand Bay Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Maurice may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
