It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary G. “Barbara” (O’Brien) Brown announce her passing on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Saint John, New Brunswick. Born on July 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McLaughlin) O’Brien.
Barb is survived by her devoted husband Marven, her beloved children Monica (Steven) Long, Lori Ann Little and Jeffrey (Kim); her loving sisters Anne McCutcheon, Christine (Norman) Hazelwood, and Bonnie (Gerald) Wood; and her cherished grandchildren Zachary (Chelsea), Kylie, Maggie, Lucas, Molly, and Kaitlin.
She was predeceased by her parents and her twin brothers Donald and David.
Barb worked as a telephone operator with NBTel for 29 years.
A woman of deep faith, Barb was a faithful member of Mission Point Church for over 40 years. She truly loved her church family and looked forward to worshipping together every Sunday. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in her kindness and love for others.
Barb was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader — always eager to hear about their latest sports “scores,” to listen to them sing in church, or to chat about school, work, and even their love lives. She took great joy in every detail of their lives and made each of them feel special.
Saturdays often found Barb and her “sidekick” sister Bonnie out shopping — the two of them could shop for hours and always had fun doing it. She also loved taking drives and enjoying ice cream treats with her lifelong love, Marven.
Family meant everything to Barb. She loved celebrating birthdays and holidays, always ensuring there was laughter, love, and of course — a family photo to mark the occasion. Her joyful spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Every visit with Barb ended the same way — with her kind and familiar words: “God Bless Ya!”
Barb will be resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road on Friday, November 7th between the hours of 2-7 PM. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 8th beginning at 12:00 PM at Mission Point Church. A private family interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery.
Memorial donations towards the Romero House or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
