Mary Evelyn Babineau

The death of Mary Evelyn Babineau wife of the late Howard D. Babineau occurred on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Elizabeth (McManus) Abbott and a graduate of the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing prior to her marriage. She was on the staff of the Lancaster Veteran’s Hospital and later was associated with Family Services. She had been a member of the Board of Management of V.O.N., a Board member and volunteer of Meals on Wheels, a member of the Education Committee of the NB Chapter of the Gerontology Association and was honored by them for her work with seniors. She had also been a member of the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and was recognized by both with the national and local offices for her long service in several other committees. For several years following her retirement she chaired the appeal hearings for Canada Pensioners. She was a member of the Cathedral CWL, the ICCA,  a life member of St. Vincent’s Alumni and a member of  the bridge club, a member  of St. Joseph’s and Rocmaura Auxiliary’s and of the Federal Superannuation for thirty years and was a summer parishioner of St. Patrick’s Parish at White’s Cove.

She is survived by her daughter Elaine Babineau (Daniel Achorn) of New Maryland and her beloved grandson Jacob of Niagara, Ontario and her son Donald of Saint John and several nieces and nephews and canine companion RJ. She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
